Kept so close

(The Clearing)

It is here –

in this clearing in the trees

that I know you most.

Where sun and shade

state their claims.

And, watching for the faintest element

of summer’s spirit

through so much time away,

I catch one view.

Flitting so lightly,

as if not real, and then gone.

Orange-tip, I am sure

I saw –

But on retina or mind’s eye?

Then, you and I,

we need this space to find our hearts,

kept so close

to seem as one –

this clearing place,

blessed by sun.
