Taunton Wildlife – Nature Photo Diary – March 2010
28 March 2010 - Horsey Island breakwater
This Willow Warbler was a cheering early Spring find and, apart from the Wheatears, was the only migrant about this afternoon.
21 March 2010 - Woolacombe
This Buzzard braved the Woolacombe mob and eventually out-soared them.
20 March 2010 - Capstone Point
This Grey Seal surfaced while I was unsuccessfully trying to photograph one of the four male Wheatears that were zipping around the littoral zone. The seal was close enough for these record shots and appeared to be eating an octopus or similar cephalopod, much to the frustration of a group of gulls that stupidly tried to mob it. 5 Purple Sandpipers also still here.
18 March 2010 - Capstone
With the first Swallow flying by today, I was hoping for a Wheatear along the Capstone Parade. Instead I got more brilliant views of Harbour Porpoise just off Wildersmouth Beach and these two Purple Sandpipers who are still knocking about. Then I get home and see that a Gyr Falcon has shown up at Braunton Marsh and Saunton - looks like an exciting weekend is in store!
13 March 2010 - Taunton (Hestercombe House)
A friendly male Chaffinch.
7 March 2010 - Capstone
This female Black Redstart has spent the winter along Ilfracombe seafront. There is also a male nearby but he is much more camera-shy. The last photo is of a female Stonechat that swapped perches with the Black Redstart while I was photographing it.
