Nature Diary Archive – June 2010

26 June 2010 - Muddiford, Devon

Common Buzzard overflying our pub lunch.

23 June 2010 - Triscombe, Quantock Hills, Somerset

Some record-quality shots of a stunning male Redstart on the Quantocks this evening. More time spent here could yield some decent photos over the next week or two. Below: I have included this out of focus shot of male Yellowhammer and Redstart together on the same Hawthorn branch as a record of a beautiful few seconds when they were both singing alongside each other.

21 June 2010 - River Tone, Ruishton, Somerset

It's the time of year to adjust the field of view from birds to insects, and often the lens to macro, so here are some damselflies. From top: Banded Demoiselle female on Black Knapweed and male on Meadow Vetchling, and White-legged Damselfly female.

20 June 2010 - North Devon valleys

For a few weeks I've been watching birds rather than photographing them so, to keep the site ticking over, here are a couple of species I haven't included before. Top: Grey Wagtail at Heddon's Mouth. Bottom: I know it is totally staged to photograph birds on feeders, but this one at a local cream tea gardens was inundated with, among other species, juvenile Siskin.
