My equipment

I use: Canon EOS 7D body

Prior to November 2010, I used a

Canon EOS 400D

Long lens:

Until June 2009: Sigma EX APO 50-500mm lens

From June 2009: Canon 400mm f/5.6 L USM lens

The Canon lens is much lighter in weight (you can hand-hold it successfully - unlike the Sigma). It is also faster focusing.

I had great problems with the Sigma lens, not least that the zoom mechanism kept jamming. The zoom-lock switch also jammed, eventually falling apart altogther!

With this lens I sometimes use a Kenko 1.4x Teleplus MC4 DGX teleconverter.

Macro lens:

Canon EFS 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens.

Many thanks to James Packer for his advice and experience.
